Welcome to the 5 x 60 page.
The 5x60 programme intends to make significant inroads into the Welsh Assembly’s target of 90% of secondary pupils achieving 60 minutes of physical activity five times a week by 2020.
5x60 is set to change the face of provision of sport in schools and transform playing fields and sports halls into hubs of bustling activity from daybreak to nightfall. A 5x60 officer, Mike Beacham, is based in Abertillery Comprehensive school and it is his role to consult with the pupils, listen to their needs and the barriers which prevent them from participating in activity in order to timetable a programme of activities that suit the pupils’ needs. These activities can take place before school during lunch after school and at weekends. The activities will be mainly targeting individuals that currently do not participate or who are in danger of losing interest.
How can you get involved?
All pupils are very welcome to attend any 5x60 activity, and every activity is free unless stated! Below is a timetable of activities, which are starting in September 2009. You will be able to see this timetable plus posters for every club around the school and in Abertillery leisure centre.
If you are a parent/ friend of the school you can still get involved! We are always looking for volunteers to help with the running of the scheme. This may be anything from assisting in running sessions to helping with transport. If you feel you have anything to offer then please contact your 5x60 Officer.
