May 2010 Council minutes

May 2010

On Wednesday 12 May Abertillery’s school council members took a trip up to Nantyglo comprehensive for a meeting to select our ten tie designs we liked. Both schools had designed a large amount of ideas. Together we decided on ten designs that were suitable for our new uniform, we then uploaded these ideas on to our school website for people to vote on what tie they would like to have as part of their school uniform. It was good to meet with Nantyglo school council as we realised we had the same concerns and same idea’s. We were looking forward to the activity days to get to know all the pupils of nanyglo.

The winner of the vote was Kelvin farmer, well done Kelvin and everyone else who took part in the competition. Mr stock has generously said that he is willing to pay for every pupil to have a new tie when the new school uniform is ordered.

On Wednesday 26 of June we had our first activity day year 7’s had the trip to breacon year 8’s had thinking skills day and year 9’s had sports day.
On Thursday and Friday this was rotated around so all years were able to take part in all three activities.
Throughout the three days of activities many new friendships were developed, everyone was pleased with this, pupils especially. Everyone was worried about the transition ahead but we think that the activity days have proved that change isn’t always a bad thing.

Being a member of the school council I am very pleased with how it went, thanks to all year councils from Nantyglo and Abertillery for attending the meetings and discussing issues and for planning the activity days. It’s made a real difference in everyone’s opinion.

Many thanks to staff of both schools, staff at breacon activity centre, volunteers and also the pupils of Abertillery and Nantyglo we couldn’t of done it without any of you.
