Sergeant Rob Simon and Corporal Simon Colwell of The Royal Air Force gave a series of workshops at Abertillery Comprehensive, demonstrating the use of Thinking Skills within the RAF.
Talented pupils from years 7 - 9 were split into groups and set various tasks that would allow them to provide Aid Relief in an earthquake disaster zone. They had to set up a Field Hospital unit with a Helipad, prepare nutritionally balanced meals and ensure rescue workers were fit for the task. Pupils then helped to ‘fly’ a parachute and were able to try various pieces of equipment used by the RAF.
The activities proved stimulating and enlightening for the pupils, drawing on all their resources and skills. They were an absolute credit to themselves and the school.
